BUDGET DAY – WA awash with iron ore royalties
The State Government will hand down its big spending budget this afternoon.
A soaring iron ore price has resulted in the biggest surplus in the state’s history, which is likely to be around the $5 billion mark.
The government has already announced some big ticket items, including $1.9 billion to fix WA’s struggling health system and an extra $1 billion for the state’s COVID-19 response.
Funding for social housing has increased to more than $800 million.
The 2021-22 State Budget will be handed down in Parliament at 2pm today.
