Perth business owners are preparing their venues for a big weekend as the AFL Grand Final fever sweeps over the city.

Hospitality owners are stocking their fridges with food and drinks in preparartion for the big dance.

Perth pub owner Paul Higgins is getting his business, The Shoe Bar, up and running.

“Since the Brownlow last week, there’s just been so much going on,” he said. “There’s an absolute buzz around Yagan Square.”

The grand final is tipped to be one of the biggest days for the hospitality industry in recent times, with most pubs preparing to pack their venues infront of the big screens.

Mr Higgins believes it may be a struggle to get into bars around Perth.

“I think that’s what happens in Melbourne and I think we’ve got a lot of bookings. If you haven’t got anything organised, I think it will be tough,” he said.

The Western Bulldogs take on the Melbourne Demons at Optus Stadium with bouncedown at 5:15pm tomorrow.

Down the road at the WACA, Western Australian Cricket CEO Christina Matthews has announced the public will be able to enjoy a kick to kick on the WACA Ground for grand final day.

Ms Matthews is excited for the big day.

“On the WACA Ground are the goalposts where you can kick around with your friends and get into the spirit,” she said.

From 12 o’clock, the gates will open to the public.

With the cricket season starting up, Ms Matthews says it’s going to be a big summer, despite rumours that the English Cricket Team won’t bring a full strength side for the Ashes.

“It’s very exciting to have cricket back. The Ashes is big for anyone who plays the game and anybody who watches the game. I’m not sure there’ll be too many English players who want to give up that opportunity,” she said.

The WACA Ground is currently under construction with the Prindiville and Inverarity Stands being rebuilt.
