The state government says mandatory COVID-19 vaccines for teachers are “under consideration” and they are just waiting to get the health advice.

It comes as mandatory vaccinations were introduced for health care workers and FIFO mining workers by the state government.

Victoria and New South Wales have mandated COVID-19 vaccines for teachers.

WA Education Minister Sue Ellery told Liam Bartlett the mandate could possibly be introduced by term 1 next year.

“We need to give people time if we’re going to do it, to get vaccinated,” she said.

“Having said that, the cohort of staff in schools, their age is such most of them have been eligible for some time now.

“So I suspect many, many of them are already vaccinated.”
