Debate over federal plan requiring voters to show ID
A plan for voters to require ID to cast their ballot has been labelled racist by the opposition.
The government says it’s to prevent voter fraud, and those unable to provide identification could cast declaration votes which would be verified later on.
But the opposition says it could supress the indigenous vote.
Liberal Senator for Queensland James McGrath and Labor Member for Lingiari in the Northern Territory Warren Snowdon debated the proposal on the 6PR Mornings show.
