There’s warnings another lockdown can’t be ruled out, despite WA’s reopening date fast approaching.

An unvaccinated French backpacker yesterday tested positive to COVID-19, sparking the return of some restrictions just ahead of Christmas.

Australian Medical Association WA President Mark Duncan-Smith told Karalee Katsambanis restrictions could be tightened or a lockdown brought in if cases rise.

“Just because we’ve got February 5 coming, doesn’t mean that the Premier won’t put us into lockdown if it’s absolutely necessary,” he said.

“I’m sure he wants to avoid that, as we all want to avoid that, but we don’t want this to get out of hand.

“We want to be able to wait until February 5, especially as I said to get those kids vaccinated, but also to get everybody out there as vaccinated as possible.”
