Police investigating twin bomb scares in Leederville and Perth have charged a man over the incidents.

The first one exploded on Newcastle Street yesterday afternoon, causing shrapnel and debris to fly about 10 metres and nearly injuring nearby diners.

Then on Thursday night about 10.30, a person phoned police saying they had a homemade bomb on King Street in the city.

Emergency services and the TRG Bomb Response Unit attended the scene and seized the device.

After investigations overnight, Perth detectives attended a residence in Lansing Street, Queens Park in the early hours of Friday morning with the assistance of the TRG and arrested a 29-year-old man.

There is no ongoing threat to the public.
