WA Health Minister, Amber-Jade Sanderson, believes there are more active cases in the community than are being reported to WA Health.

On Wednesday, WA recorded 94 new COVID cases, with the majority of those being interstate travellers.

Minister Sanderson says these numbers may be less than the actual figure.

“I do think there is a cohort of people who are not getting tested,” he said. “I’m not a scientist but my hunch is there’s a number of young people, in particular, who really don’t want to isolate, don’t get tested and are probably not even symptomatic but could be spreading it.”

St John of God Hospital in Subiaco announced on Wednesday it will be cancelling non urgent category two and three surgeries from March 7.

The State Government says it will suspend elective surgery as of February 28th. Minister Sanderson says it is based on a predicted COVID surge in hospitals.

“Rather than actually cancelling surgeries on people, we’ve made the planned and orderly decision to not cancel from a period,” she told Oliver Peterson.

Earlier this week, the State Government announced the move to high case load protocols, which allows travellers in the same household or in close proximity to an infectious person to self-quarantine for seven days instead of 14.

On Wednesday, the State Government announced it would be providing two Rapid Antigen Tests for all domestic and international arrivals into Perth Airport.
