Girl Guides CEO explains shock dismissal after questioning transgender membership rules
Karyn Lisignoli was sacked just ten days into her new job as chief executive of Girl Guides Western Australia after seeking legal advice on changing the membership rules to ‘biological females’.
The Girl Guides WA constitution currently defines a girl ‘as any person under 18 who lives their life as female’.
Ms Lisignoli posted to Twitter on December 16, contacting Katherine Deves, the head of Save Women’s Sport Australia, to ask if changing the membership rules to allow for only ‘biological females’ would be ‘breaking the law’.
Ms Lisignoli told 6PR Mornings host Liam Bartlett that in the nine days of her working as chief executive, she made several changes to an extensive review that the organisation approved and supported her.
“They trusted my expertise and my knowledge, and they were very excited to draw on the networks that I have as a CEO in the charitable sector,” she said.
“Then (during) next stage with what I was doing with Katherine Deves because there was just a tiny bit of attention, unfortunately, they capitulated to cancel culture.”
