Parents are demanding answers after being left thousands of dollars out of pocket when an overseas school trip for Year 10 to Year 12 rugby students was cancelled.

Staff and 29 students from Aranmore Catholic College were supposed to travel to Europe in early 2020, but it was called off due to the pandemic.

Each parent lost nearly $7000 from the cancellation, with the travel agent claiming the money had already been spent on bookings through Europe.

School mum Kylie told 6PR Mornings host Liam Bartlett parents have never received proof of expenses from the travel agent.

“We’re normal parents, hard-working people, some are battlers who borrowed money so the kids could go on this trip, and we just really want to know, where is that money?” she told Mornings.

“If I get a $10 Uber I get a receipt, yet a $250,000 trip that we were directed to pay in cash to a travel agent, and there’s no receipt.”

Aranmore principal Declan Tanham told 6PR Mornings the situation was frustrating.

“Firstly it’s disappointing the trip wasn’t able to go ahead, and the fact that there’s been no communication from the travel agent as to where the money is, is also very frustrating for the parents,” he said.

The Leederville high school offers a specialist rugby union development program for Year 7 to Year 12 boys and girls at the school.
