A children’s hospice will be given a $6 million boost from the state government, with construction to begin this year.

The Swanbourne facility will provide palliative care for children up to the age of 18 and aims to be operational by early 2024.

Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO Carrick Robinson told 6PR Mornings host Liam Bartlett on Friday the hospice’s estimated cost was more than $25 million, with $23m already secured to build the facility.

“We raised that money in a little over 14 months, so our dream of getting a children’s hospice up and running and in the ground very soon is ever closer,” he told Mornings.

There are about 2000 children in WA living with a terminal illness.
