Justin Langer has broken his silence since resigning as head coach of the Australian men’s cricket team to pay tribute to fellow West Australian cricket legend Rodney Marsh, who passed away today aged 74 after a heart attack.

Langer rang into the ‘News Review’ on 6PR Mornings to relay funny and fond memories of Marsh to host Liam Bartlett and guests Michael Thomson and Julie-Ann Sprague.

“When I first got dropped from the Australian team I was 22 years old and at that stage you can’t see past the end of your nose, you think the dream is over,” he recalls.

“He rang me and said ‘come over to the cricket academy and we’ll help you get to play for Australia again’ and I went over there and the first thing he said was, ‘mate I don’t care how long you bat for, you’ve got to score runs’.

“He turned me into a slogger! Because if Rod Marsh said to do something, you did it.”
