Aaron Black, the skipper of the West Perth Football Club, was called in as a top-up player at the age of 29 to make his AFL debut.

North Melbourne beat the Eagles by 15 points on Sunday after 12 players from the previous weekend’s game were ruled out through the AFL’s health and safety protocols.

Black told Breakfast with Gareth Parker that it was surreal to be presented with his own West Coast Eagles jumper by coach Adam Simpson.

“To have thought about that moment for a really long time and actually be in that moment at Marvel Stadium have Adam hand me the jumper is something really special and one that I will hold very close to me,” he said.

“The way that the world’s going, the circumstances changed, and I was given an opportunity which I am eternally grateful for the West Coast Eagles for giving me that opportunity.”
