Jetstar says bookings for new Busselton to Melbourne flights are strong
Jetstar’s CEO has said that Busselton is now the 22nd domestic destination in its network, with the first flight taking place on Wednesday.
The first direct flight from Melbourne to Busselton touched down on Wednesday morning.
The route was due to commence in March 2020 but was postponed several times due to border closures and COVID complications.
Jetstar is the first and only airline to fly direct from the east coast to WA’s southwest.
Gareth Evans, the CEO of Jetstar, says 186 people are onboard the inaugural flight.
The flights will be available three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
“The bookings have been really, really strong for the Easter period and beyond that as well, so we’re really, really pleased,” he said.
“It has been a long time coming. We did a little calculation yesterday. It’s been 916 days since we announced this route, and then COVID came.”
