The worrisome trend in young Australian’s picking up vapes
Brightly-coloured vaping products claiming to be nicotine-free could be banned under a national crackdown.
A federal government review into e-cigarettes has shown younger vapers are around three-times more likely to smoke than non-vapers.
Experts are pushing for more to be done to protect young Australians from the potential harms of e-cigarettes.
The Australian National University has been looking at global evidence to help better inform government decisions surrounding the habit.
ANU Program Lead Raglan Maddox told Steve Mills there’s limited effectiveness in vapes used as a way to curb cigarette cravings.
“As evidence emerges, we’re continuing to see an increase in the harms associated,” he said.
“So [there’s] a number of concerns and then further, when we think about the health and wellbeing of our children.”
