Is Anthony Albanese too confident?

On the opening day of campaigning, Albanese failed to answer a simple question posed by a Tasmanian reporter on what Australia’s unemployment rate is and what Australia’s cash rate is.

Nine News political editor Chris Uhlmann, told Liam Bartlett that “the unemployment rate is something that gets discussed every day in Canberra. Anyone in this office should know that as it’s constantly repeated.”

Liam also spoke to Paul Kelly, a political commentator for The Australian who has covered every election since Gough Whitlam to John Howard about his reaction to Albanese’s hiccup this morning.

“This is the worst performance I have seen by an opposition leader on the opening day of a press conference at the start of a campaign,” said Kelly.
