Three wealthy businessmen have paid $55 million each to spend 10 days on the International Space Station as space tourists.

The three wealthy individuals (Larry Connor of Dayton, Ohio, who runs the Connor Group; Mark Pathy, founder and chief executive of Montreal’s Mavrik Corp; and Israel’s Eytan Stibbe, a former fighter pilot and founding partner of Vital Capital) were rocketed to the ISS by Elon Musk’s SpaceX company on Friday (meals and accommodation included).

Australian National University astrophysicist and cosmologist Dr Brad Tucker told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast the trio’s trip would be “a mixture of being on a cruise and a type of work experience environment”.

“You’re not going for the amenities, you’re going for the location … it’s definitely a small ride but you’re looking forward to the destination,” he said.

“The bathroom has a great view at least.”
