Concerns have been raised about the treatment of WA hospital patients amid staff shortages during the state’s Omicron peak.

6PR Mornings received a first-hand account from listener Pat after a fully-vaccinated family member with asthma was admitted to Fiona Stanley Hospital with COVID-19 after experiencing breathing difficulties.

She told host Liam Bartlett she was “horrified” to hear what was happening, with claims the hospital was short of 50 nursing staff, rooms were unclean from previous patients and food quality standards extremely poor.

“The nurses were running off their feet doing their upmost best,” Pat told Bartlett.

She called on WA Premier Mark McGowan to do better.

“Can the Premier please tell me where we are going to get these staff from?” she asked.

“He says he’s putting so much work and effort into these hospitals and that there is nothing wrong, but I am sorry, there is something very wrong.”
