‘Valley of death’: Builders association pleads for assistance with increasing building costs
The Master Builders Association of WA has called for the State Government to intervene in what they say is an ever-growing building crisis.
New Sensation Homes and Home Innovation Builders have gone into liquidation in the past fortnight, and concerns are growing more could follow suit.
Executive Director John Gelavis told Gary Adshead, filling in for Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings, that while the demand for building and construction is strong, the industry has significant problems.
“There’s trade shortages we’ve been experiencing along with material shortages, steel supply, critical building materials like pine insulation and others,” he explained.
“When COVID did hit, display homes were shut down, and that’s really effectively the shopfront of the industry,
“We surveyed our members, (and the) majority of them reported their pipeline had completely dried up, so it was called the valley of death.”
