Mark McGowan is in isolation after a family member tested positive to COVID-19, as the state records 8080 new cases.

The WA Premier said in a statement he had taken a PCR test at Rockingham General Hospital, which had returned a negative result on Wednesday morning.

“I will continue to follow the health guidelines as so many Western Australians have done during this pandemic,” he said.

“I’ll be working from home for the duration of my isolation period as required.

The news of McGowan’s isolation comes as WA Health reported 39,921 active cases across the state, with 244 people with COVID-19 in hospital and 10 in ICU.

No deaths were reported on Tuesday.

Of the 8080 cases, 2568 were confirmed via PCR tests and the remaining 5512 were self-reported positive RATs.

A total of 14,322 PCR tests were conducted at either state-run or private pathology clinics on Tuesday.

WA has now recorded 311,513 cases since the pandemic began.
