Cafe owner’s passion stays strong after cancer fight

Cancer survivor David Infirri has urged listeners to support this year’s ‘Biggest Morning Tea’ fundraiser that helps people impacted by cancer.

The Passione Gourmet Deli owner is the Cancer Council of WA’s 2022 ambassador for the annual morning tea event, after a shock diagnosis in March 2019 that is now “well and truly under control, and that’s where we plan to keep it for a very long time”.

This week’s ‘West Aussie Great’ on 6PR Breakfast told host Gareth Parker he was advised to “get his affairs in order” after a shock diagnosis of stage 4 bowel cancer at age 38 that spread through his body and brain.

At the time, the news rocked his heavily pregnant wife more than him, but David is now back working at the family’s bustling gourmet deli in Kingsley.

In true Sicilian style, he eyes the future in a family light when considering his prognosis.

“My daughter’s three years old now and I still talk every day about how I’m going to dance at her wedding,” he told Parker.

“It’s not the normal conversation you have with your 3yo but yeah, you keep looking forward.”
