‘Disturbing’: Hundreds of candidates’ signs stolen, defaced
6PR Mornings has revealed hundreds of political signs have been stolen, vandalised and defaced across Perth in the lead up to the federal election.
Callers have reported 40 signs being flattened around Wembley.
There were also reports of 20 signs being stolen from the Fremantle area and 100 or more from the seat of Hasluck.
In the hotly contested seat of Curtin, there’s been some 400 signs stolen, featuring the sitting member Celia Hammond.
She says the deliberate and systemic.
“It’s disturbing on the scale, anybody who is a candidate expects that there might be some graffiti on the occasional moustache or horns, but the number being taken across the electorate is quite disturbing,” Ms Hammond told Liam Bartlett.
She says local councils have been in contact to say they have found skip bins full of signs.
