Unpaid overtime is on the rise as workers increasingly choose to shun traditional hours.

But new research warns that the Fair Work system is failing to keep up with the increase in flexible work.

Dr Sean Gallagher, a director at the Centre for the New Workforce at Swinburne University of Technology said that since the pandemic began, a third of more workers are working more hours.

“On top of that, more than one in four workers are not being paid for the extra work or over time,” he told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast.

He said the tight labour market meant one in two workers were willing to look for alternative work if it meant more flexibility.
