The State School Teachers Union is calling on parents to get their school kids to mask up as term three begins across Western Australia this week.

WA Premier Mark McGowan and Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson have both said “it’s strongly encouraged to wear one indoors”, a message that SSTU secretary Pat Byrne said was confusing.

“I think it’s much more preferable to have a public health approach with a strong public health message rather than hope individuals do the right thing,” she told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings.

WA has recorded two grim COVID-19 records on Monday, cracking both its millionth case and 411 hospital admissions as a new coronavirus wave washes over the state.
