The airwaves have lit up with listeners sharing their difficulties with attracting and retaining skilled migrants.

A taste of some of the frustrations of people dealing with immigration came after 6PR Mornings host Liam Bartlett heard from Armando Angelino, who works at Green Bunch Cafe in East Victoria Park thanks to a bridging visa, but is having difficulties attaining a different bridging visa – at a cost – that lets him leave the country for three months and return.

Angelino, who has lived and worked in Perth for eight years and considers it home, wants to return to Italy to visit his relatives, who hasn’t seen for years because of the pandemic.

He has criticised the WA Premier Mark McGowan, who is currently in Italy promoting skilled people to come to Perth for jobs.

“They want money for everything. They’re very good at taking money, they’re very quick as well… but in terms of coming back to you, they even have the attitude of ‘you have to sit and wait’,” Armando told Bartlett.
