The new management of Crown Resorts has weighed in on the controversy of Wayne Carey’s eviction from Crown Perth’s casino and hotel premises last Thursday, contradicting the AFL star’s recollection of events.

Crown Resorts CEO Ciaran Carruthers told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings he had assured WA’s casino watchdog and WA Police that officers would be notified any time illegal activity was suspected at Crown’s complexes across Australia.

He also said Carey had not been entirely truthful about offering casino security the bag and whether he was staying on the Crown property.

“That’s in contradiction to the statements we’ve received from our own staff and from witnesses who were there at the time,” Carruthers said about Carey offering to hand the bag over.

“He advised our team he was not a guest of the hotel and we subsequently found that was not the case, and he was staying at one of the hotel rooms.

“Our team then approached him in his room and advised him he needed to vacate.”

Carey, 51, maintains the bag contained a small amount of anti-inflammatory medication, branded Aleve, which he regularly takes for pain.

On Wednesday Maurice Blackburn lawyers for Carey said they had been retained by the former footballer to assess whether he was unlawfully discriminated against, which Carruthers denied.
