The Royal Australian Mint has revealed the effigy of King Charles III will begin popping up on the back of newly-minted coins from next year.
But in an interesting change, he will now be facing the left, a tradition that dates back to the reign of Charles II in the 1600s, which states each new monarch must alternate in the direction they gaze.
The Queen has been the only monarch to feature on Australia’s decimal currency, which was introduced in 1966.
6PR Breakfast host Gareth Parker said more than 15 billion coins “had been minted with the Queen’s face on it”.
