6PR secures AFL rights until 2024
6PR has secured radio, streaming and digital rights to the AFL until 2024.
The two-year deal will see Perth’s No. 1 talk station call up to four matches per week, available to listeners on 6PR 882, and for the first time through the 6PR app and website.
The agreement includes:
- 4 matches per week, as picked by 6PR
- All marquee games
- All finals and the Grand Final
- AFLW rights including a commitment for 1 x AFLW broadcast per round, Finals and the Grand Final
- An AFLW internship to foster media talent among the playing group
- Associated digital and streaming rights
The new deal marks the end of 6PR’s rights agreement with SEN, and ensures the only place to hear the biggest names and best opinions in footy is 6PR, the home of football.
Nine Radio managing director Tom Malone said Perth listeners are the big winners in the new deal.
“It means that Perth will have access to 6PR’s unrivalled commentary right through until the 2024 season,” he said.
“Importantly, the agreement incorporates full streaming rights, giving fans the ability to tune into 6PR no matter where they are in Australia.
“We’re also very proud to be increasing our support for the AFLW by calling more matches and implementing our groundbreaking broadcast internship program.”
6PR content manager Emily White said the station was thrilled to keep broadcasting to footy fans across WA.
“Our coverage of the Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles brings next-level analysis and insight, and how good will it be to sit in Optus Stadium and listen to the best commentators in town through the 6PR app,” she said.
In a win for footy fans, the AFL has given rights holders access to deliver zero latency calls at AFL venues, meaning AFL fans will be able to experience a call at certain AFL match venues with little to no delay,.
