Mornings exclusive: WA Cricket has plunged deeper into turmoil with another board member quitting weeks after the exit of chair Terry Waldron, and the female CEO claiming gender is an issue for some within the organisation.

CEO Christina Matthews (above) denies she has a bad relationship with the board before claiming some traditionalists were against her leading the organisation because she’s female.

Nicola Brandon’s resignation from the board overnight caught Matthews off guard this morning, and comes weeks after Waldron left amid an ongoing rift with a proposal to erect statues outside the famous cricket ground, with another board member and Perth QC Tom Percy calling for an independent inquiry.

“Well that’s news to me,” Matthews, the chief executive of 10 years, told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings about Brandon’s exit.

Legendary WA cricketer Graeme Wood, a former board member, denied gender was an issue with the organisation’s leadership but told Bartlett “the best person should get the job”.
