Disposable plastic cups will be banned this coming weekend as part of the next phase in WA’s plastic ban.

Warren Reynolds, Executive Chairman at Muzz Buzz told Mark Gibson that their company has been preparing for this change by bringing in biodegradable cups.

“It’s fundamentally the same product but unfortunately a lot more expensive. Plastic is a lot easier,” Mr Reynolds said.

Confusion has risen as businesses around WA will now need to phase out their plastic cups but the timeline of this is uncertain.

“It’s been an absolute nightmare, simply because Western Australia is trying to do this 2-5 years ahead of everybody else. Big manufacturers are not going to manufacture just for WA, they’re trying to roll it out across Australia and the Governments won’t talk to each other and won’t have a sensible timeframe for all of this.

“How are we supposed to cope?”
