West Australian publican and former general manager of East Perth, ‘Marbles’ Wilson, is full of stories on the glory days of the WAFL and the fame and fun that flowed with it.

‘Marbles’, real name Alex Wilson, was a legend of the local scene, one of football’s most colourful and enduring characters who mixed as easily with mayors and politicians as he did with the local community and members of his beloved Royals.

He caught up with Millsy at Midday host Steve Mills, with the stories and laughs coming thick and fast on the boom days of the local WA footy scene.

Wilson ironically played juniors with fierce WAFL rivals West Perth, before he joined the Royals as a marketing manager in 1984 after leaving the Blue Note Tavern and spent 28 years at the Royals.
