Forest Industry claims Government’s native logging ban is unjustified
The State Government has granted West Aussies a say on their draft 10-year Forest Management Plan for 2024-2033.
The plan will deliver on the McGowan Government’s decision to end native logging in the South-West.
Jenna Clarke, Journalist at The Australian, joined Oliver Peterson on Perth Live and highlighted that as a child of the forest industry, she is conflicted on the matter.
“The fact that the government has put this out for public consultation, when they haven’t even consulted with the actual industry… logging, especially in Western Australia is probably one of the most sustainable industries… because trees grow back!”

Adele Farina, CEO of Forest Industries Federation of WA told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that consultation with the industry has been severely overlooked and is overdue.
“I couldn’t agree with Jenna more. We knew that the government was preparing the draft and we knew that it was due for release within days so it came as no surprise,” Ms Farina said.
“This decision is not based on science, it is short sighted and it has no regard for supporting regional communities and keeping workers in those regional communities.”
