The first steps towards Australia becoming a republic have been revealed, with a consultation tour to begin early next year.

The federal government will ask people their thoughts on whether the nation should cut its ties with the monarchy.

Sandy Biar, CEO and National Director of the Australian Republic Movement, told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that they’ve had thousands of people sign up to get involved in the campaign.

“We’ve seen the kind of growth that we’ve never seen before,” he said.

“It’s absolutely unprecedented,

“And Australians right across the country are coming together to back this important change.”
