New Woolworths store with a difference opens in Perth
Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery today opened WA’s first ‘Mini Woolies’ at Cannington Community Education Support Centre.
The initiative is a learning and education tool for students in years 10 to 12 with disabilities, helping them develop numeracy, language and communication skills through the mini supermarket.
Established in a renovated school shed, the program simulates a real Woolworths supermarket, with cash registers, shelving, grocery items and uniforms.
6PR news reporter Anne Naylor told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont the students will be able to develop critical life skills without anxiety.
“You go inside and it just looks like Woolies, on a smaller scale,” she told Beaumont.
WA’s second Mini Woolies store will open at Gladys Newton School in Balga this week.
