The future of the Matilda Bay Brewery and the old Ford Factory in Fremantle will be decided tomorrow as plans to build multi story apartments are currently pending.

Fremantle Society President, John Dowson told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that WA’s Heritage Council takes too long in their assessment of buildings for state protection.

He believes that the long waiting time on these heritage buildings gives developers “a toe-in to ruin them.”

“The problem is that this building is going to do a lot of damage to the heritage – 24 stories, that is more than double of anything built in Fremantle, the height is one of the main issues and heritage the other,” he told Oly.

“People want to see something done on this site, I mean it’s a fabulous site but I think this is just a huge overreach.”
