Mornings program drives key change in working with children status
There has been a major win for WA children and their families after the Minister for Child Protection made changes to a new scheme around working with children.
Opposition spokesperson on Child Protection, Nick Goiran, originally raised questions in Parliament about a ‘mysterious seven’ people who were to be granted ‘working with children’ cards, despite chequered histories.
“Credit where credit’s due, it [the change] probably would not have been possible without the 6PR Mornings program,” he told host Gary Adshead.

The changes come as a Perth dad labelled one of WA’s worst paedophiles after the sexual abuse of 22 children, including his own, between 2015 and 2021 was today jailed for 25 years.
The 47-year-old cannot be named to protect the identities of his victims, but his crimes came undone when his ex-wife became suspicious and ran file recovery software on a blank USB she found, which revealed child exploitation videos.
The Perth District Court public gallery was filled with the parents of the man’s 22 victims, who were aged between two and 12, as he was sentenced for 406 offences on Wednesday.
Most children did not wake during the abuse, with state prosecutor Fiona Clare noting it was believed medicine – possibly phenergan – was sometimes given to the children beforehand.
