Violent thugs could be removed from Perth’s major party precincts this festive season if they cause trouble after Protected Entertainment Precinct laws come into effect on Christmas Eve.

The laws passed parliament in November and give police officers the ability to ban troublemakers in Northbridge, Perth, Fremantle, Scarborough, Hillarys and Mandurah entertainment precincts for up to six months.

Reece Whitby, Racing and Gaming Minister told Jamie Burnett, filling in for Oliver Peterson, that these laws are intended to make these areas safer for people to enjoy, especially over the festive season.

“We believe that people when they go out, have a right to feel safe and a right to be safe,” he told Jamie.

“We have seen far too many instances in the past where there has been simply mindless violence, terrible tragedies and this we hope will make those areas safer.”
