According to linguistic experts, Australian accents mispronounce the word ‘no’ by adding an unnecessary ‘r’ to the end of the word.

Lecturer in voice and accents at the University of Melbourne Amy Hume told 6PR Afternoons Australian accents perform linguistic magic.

“There are quirks to the [Australian] accent,” said Ms Hume.

“The roots of the standard Australian accent… are from British accents.”
