A Sydney scientist who oversaw the operation to recover the missing radioactive capsule found in WA’s north-east says he was confident his team would find it.

Nuclear expert from the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, Dr Miles Apperly, told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings scientists mounted their detection equipment inside vehicles to cover the 14-hundred-kilometre search area quickly.

“We weren’t so much daunted by the scope of the field, we knew we had technology that could detect the source, it was more a case of how can we do it in a timely fashion,” Dr Apperly said.

“We were very excited – there was also a warm sense of satisfaction as I said we had a lot of confidence.”
