Private Healthcare Australia has declared Medicare is benefiting the wealthy and not supporting the people who need it.

With more doctors turning away from bulk-billing, wealthier families have more access to specialist care which delivers higher rebates than GP visits.

PHA CEO Rachel David told Jo McManus on 6PR Afternoons the government needs to do more to support those struggling.

“We pay the highest prices in the world for these things,” said Mr David.
