The State Government says they’re looking into a solution for alcohol abuse in WA’s north-east.

Youth crime has been ravaging the area, as the town is yet to implement liquor mandates such as limits on the liquor one can buy, banned drinkers register, or making it a dry community.

Premier Mark McGowan says more work needs to be done in the town to assist local liquor suppliers.

Carnarvon Hotel licensee Helen told Gary Adshead onĀ 6PR Mornings she’s astonished by Mark McGowan’s comments.

“We as an accord have put our hands up for the banned drinkers register (BDR) – but then we find out at the last meeting with the minister that BDR is a waste of time and takes too long,” Helen said.

“This is the word on the street, ‘don’t go to Carnarvon,’ as a little tourist town with businesses trying to survive – this is what we’re getting.”
