Hitchhiking was an incredibly popular way of getting around during the 1960s and early 1970s however, it saw a significant dip due to people perceiving the practise as dangerous.

Founder of Get Lost Magazine Justin Jamieson says thanks to the Netherlands and Germany, hitchhiking is making a comeback.

“They’ve got areas where you can literally stand and put your sign out and away you go, the days of sticking your thumbs out on the motorway are gone as it’s illegal,” Mr Jamieson told Millsy and Karl.

“It was a really popular way of travelling – it’s a shame because it is a great way to meet people and travel.”
