WA’s prison systems failing as a man is found dead and Youth Officers go on strike
Officers at Banksia Hill Detention Centre have walked off the job as long-running negotiations continue into their pay and working conditions.
This comes only hours after a 40-year-old man was found dead at Hakea Prison, not far from the centre.
The Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) is concerned poor pay and working conditions are forcing staff to strike and putting inmates and staff at risk.
CPSU branch secretary Rikki Hendon told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live conditions at Banksia Hill are worsening.
