Mines Minister Bill Johnston has said gold bars produced by Perth Mint have consistently met international purity.

Allegations surrounding the incorrect doping of gold sold overseas have rocked the refining industry in recent weeks, but Mr Johnston maintains the practice had ceased by the time it was brought to his attention.

This comes as the company which runs a crypto-currency scheme for the Perth Mint pulled out following the alleged breaches.

Since 2019, the mint has used the Singaporean-based tech business to sell tokens that can be turned into physical gold.

The Premier says he wasn’t aware of the arrangement, despite being the minister responsible for the mint at the time.

Perth Live host Oliver Peterson said this has “trashed” the Mint’s reputation.
