Is living on boats the solution to the housing crisis? This man thinks so
Alan Shafto is a boat owner, Albany resident (by way of the harbour) and a proponent of minimalist living.
The 33-year-old traded in city upkeep and – along with his partner and rescue dog, Emmy – has made the move to what they see as a more sustainable way to live, especially in the face of constantly rising housing and utility costs.
“I don’t have to worry about electricity, water or any of those things… not having those life expenses is a huge difference in living costs per year for us,” Mr Shafto toldĀ Simon Beaumont onĀ 6PR Mornings.
