Eddie McGuire has had an emotional reaction to news his production company was paid more than a million dollars to stage and produce Shane Warne’s funeral.

The Age learned via a Freedom of Information Act filing Warne’s funeral was by far the most expensive Victorian state memorial, almost three times more than the service for the four police officers killed in 2020.

Entertainment reporter Peter Ford said he wasn’t surprised by how much money was sunk into Warne’s funeral.

“But I spoke to Eddie this morning and he wasn’t happy about it, because it makes it sound like he trousered a million bucks,” Mr Ford said.
