Medical abortions will soon be much more common throughout the country as access is set to be dramatically expanded under major changes to regulation.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration are removing restrictions on abortion pill prescriptions in a move supported by doctors and nurse practitioners.

Monash University’s Chair of General Practice Professor Danielle Mazza told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings it’s important to have an alternative to surgical procedures.

“It means a medical abortion can take place in your own home.”
