A stand-off between a gunman and WA Police has ended, with the man being airlifted to hospital in critical condition.

The 25-year-old is suspected of fatally shooting a co-worker this morning in Kellerberrin, about 200 kilometres east of Perth.

It triggered a massive manhunt, while the town spent hours in lockdown.

Police are urgently seeking the whereabouts of 25-year-old Lachlan Bowles, who was last seen in the Kellerberrin area at about 8.40 this morning.

Mr Bowles is described as approximately 175cm tall, of slim build, brown hair and blue eyes.

The man is believed to be travelling on foot around Mission Road, in the Kellerberrin and Bencubbin areas.

 He is believed to be armed and dressed in camouflage clothing.

 Residents in the area are urged to stay inside and avoid traveling by any means.

He is believed to be driving a 2007 Grey Holden Commodore, registration 1CRB764.
Police urge anyone in the Kellerberrin and Bencubbin areas, near Mission Road, to stay indoors and avoid travelling by any means.
Members of the public are advised to not approach Mr Bowles or the vehicle, but contact police immediately on 000.
