The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) has issued Alcoa with a prevention notice after finding the company was pumping PFAS-contaminated water without regulatory approval.

The contaminated water was being pumped over a dam near Waroona which is a key source of drinking water.

WAToday Business writer Peter Milne told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live the company has put lives at risk.

“It’s just an outrageous flouting of the rules,” said Mr Milne.

“It’s pretty damning.”
