UPDATE: Special Operations Group officers have arrested six remaining juvenile detainees on the roof of a Banksia Hill Detention Centre building.

The officers approached with weapons drawn and reportedly fired rubber bullets before the juveniles laid down with their hands behind their backs.

Nine News reporter Mia Egerton-Warburton told Gary Adshead on 6PR it was the final chapter of an incident which saw almost 50 juveniles cause chaos in the centre for more than 14 hours.

“You can see the six of them lying there, obviously surrendering to Special Operations Group officers on the roof, and then they’re just surrounded on the ground by WA Police officers and more prison officers,” Ms Egerton-Warburton said.

Almost 50 juveniles have spent the night rioting at Banksia Hill Detention Centre, causing extensive damage to the facility.

Negotiations are currently underway, but there are still several detainees on the roofs of buildings.

Nine News reporter Kelly Haywood told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast the juveniles were still lighting objects at fire and throwing them at prison officers.

“You can tell they are getting quite tired, because of course they have been going since 8.30 last night,” Ms Haywood said.
