Entertainment, food and siblings are the key variables that determine how long it takes for children to have a backseat tantrum.

Research based from responses on 2000 sets of parents found the average child will throw a tantrum 70 minutes into a car journey.

Broadcaster, author, maths genius and numbers geek Adam Spencer told 6PR Breakfast host Gareth Parker that average tantrum time was drastically reduced if other siblings were in the car.

“The big one is S – if there are other siblings in the car to distract, that’s when things can go a little bit kooky,” he said.
